What is PTA? 

PTA is an active partnership between parents and teachers at Minshew who want to encourage parents to become more involved in their child's education.  We also provide programs, activities and funding to enhance the curriculum and expand the opportunities not afforded our children by the school district.

The PTA Mission

The mission of the PTA is three-fold:

  • To support and speak on behalf of children and youth in the schools, in the community and before governmental agencies and other organizations that make decisions affecting children.
  • To assist parents in developing the skills they need to raise and protect their children.
  • To encourage parent and public involvement in the public schools of this nation.

The Purposes of the PTA

  • To promote the welfare of children and youth in home, school community and place of worship.
  • To raise the standards of home life.
  • To secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth.
  • To bring into closer relation, the home and the school that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education of children and youth.
  • To develop between educators and the general public, such united effots as will secure for all children and youth the highest advantages in physical, mental, social and spiritual education.

PTA Accomplishments

  • Minshew PTA provided a shade structure with concrete pad for playground.
  • Minshew PTA helped raise funds for a new school sound system!
  • Minshew PTA provides display boards for ALL students grades 3-5 for the Annual Science Fair.
  • PTA Dad's Crew hosts great family events like Family Movie Night & Donuts with Dad!
  • Minshew PTA provides $5 per student to be spent on extra field trips throughout the school year.
  • Minshew PTA provided the AWESOME student assemblies "Blast from the Brass" & "High Flying Entertainment"!
  • Minshew PTA hosted visiting children's authors Tammy Carter Bronson & Mary Carole Strothers for every grade to enjoy and learn about the writing and publishing process.
  • Minshew PTA provides After School Enrichment Camps for students at a reduced cost.  Camps have included Art, Drama, Science, Dance, Pickle Ball & Spanish.
  • Minshew PTA provides EVERY student with a daily folder/planner.
  • Minshew PTA provides Family Nights several times throughout the school year.  These nights are designed in conjunction with teachers to enhance the student's curriculum and provide entertainment for the whole family.  Math, Science, Reading and Art just to name a few!
  • Minshew PTA has ongoing community service projects such as Ink Jet Cartridge Recycling, Clothing & Food drives, School Supply Collection and McKinney Make a Difference Day!
  • Minshew PTA has sponsored a Minshew Colts Talent Show!
  • Minshew PTA organizes an AWESOME Teacher Appreciation Week to show our Minshew Staff that we appreciate all they do for our children!
  • Minshew PTA provides countless hours of volunteer support for the school in the workrook, office, library, classrooms, Book Fair, Field Day, Art & Music, Cafeteria, etc.
  • Minshew PTA has been the winner FOUR YEARS IN A ROW in the McKinney Jaycess Lighted Holiday Christmas Parade!
